The Lost Fingers of the Hand of Doom is a pedal that, in both name and sound, pays tribute to the legendary Tony Iommi, guitarist of Black Sabbath. His tone is one of the hardest to replicate in guitar history, and this is due to several factors. Among them is his use of the ultra-rare and long-discontinued Laney Supergroup amplifier, pushed to extreme saturation by a Rangemaster.The Rangemaster is a famous germanium treble booster, also used by Brian May and Rory Gallagher—yet its name scares off many players who have never tried the pedal. What it does isn’t exactly a treble boost—it cuts lows, accentuates high mids, and drives gain, both through its high output volume and the considerable clipping from its germanium transistor. The Lost Fingers modernizes and expands this functionality: using an NPN germanium transistor (which allows powering via a standard Boss-style adapter) selected for the lowest noise level—the pedal also features a Range control. At minimum, it works like an original Rangemaster, but as you turn it clockwise, it allows more low frequencies to pass through the circuit, reaching a full-range boost. This makes the circuit more versatile for different guitar and amplifier voicings, not only tightening up distorted tones and reducing muddiness but also pushing all frequencies of your guitar across various tunings.On top of that, when used in full-range mode, it serves as an excellent preamp to warm up your sound and bring out all the texture of the germanium transistor, with an explosion of complex harmonics and subtle compression. We shouldn’t live only on Marshall and Fender. Ampeg amplifiers are a crucial part of music history, having been used by various jazz musicians (the focus of Ampeg in its early days), but soon discovered by rock musicians. Keith Richards used an SVT in the recordings of Exile on Main St, Sticky Fingers, and many other Rolling Stones albums. The Red Giant is Collateral's High Gain pedal. Based on the Revv G3, the Red Giant offers less piercing highs and more clarity and note separation when in high gain. The Black Hole Sunn is based on the legendary and massive Sunn Model T amplifiers, which were designed for use with both guitars and basses. Like many amplifiers of the time, they featured two inputs: normal and high treble, each with its individual gain. Similar to the practice with Marshall Plexi amps, it is common to "jump" these two channels and use them in parallel to offer a more balanced and less shrill sound - and here, this option is represented by the Normal and Bright knobs, which refer to the gain of each of these stages.

The Boss CE-1 was the first "compact" chorus pedal on the market, designed not only for the guitar but for electric instruments in general. For this purpose, its operation depended on an always active preamp that allowed selecting a high or low impedance input signal - however, this preamp remains active even when the Chorus itself is turned off. In other words, even in bypass, this preamp, which also features a gain control, affects the guitar signal.

This characteristic did not go unnoticed by its most famous users, John Frusciante (Red Hot Chili Peppers) and Dean DeLeo (Stone Temple Pilots) - and the sound of the CE-1 preamp became an integral part of their clean tone and that of many other guitarists. However, besides being an expensive and rare pedal, these are very old units that require direct plug-in power, in addition to being famously noisy.
