The key difference lies in how these transistors are selected: they are meticulously tested and chosen based on their gain and leakage current, taking into account our tropical climate. And trust me: ambient temperature makes a TOTAL difference in the behavior and sound of a germanium transistor—when the temperature is higher, internal leakage current increases, the circuit becomes noisier, the note decay becomes more gated, and the pedal doesn’t clean up as well when you roll back the volume control on your instrument.
