Active ingredient – JFETs emulating the sound of 1970s and 1980s Marshall Hot Rodded amps, with active controls in the equalization.

Based on the sound of the early recordings by Van Halen, the Unchained uses JFET technology to emulate the pre and power stages of the Marshall Super Lead. The tones of Ed Van Halen are extremely difficult to reproduce with amplifiers since he used them at very high volumes, passing through attenuators – which brought that compressed, sagging, and sustained sound. The Unchained circuit faithfully reproduces such tones, featuring a powerful three-band active equalizer, providing great flexibility to match the pedal with your favorite guitars, amplifiers, or emulators. Additionally, the Unchained can be powered by up to 18v, allowing for more headroom and dynamics if the user prefers the pedal that way.

It is crucial to emphasize that, despite the references to EVH and the elusive “Brown Sound,” the Unchained is capable of going much further – its gain control is highly versatile, encompassing tones from 1970s and 1980s hard rock and smoothly transitioning through the guitar tones of 1980s metal and the early 1990s.
